Peter and Steven with the winners trophy at a sunny Close House

Not for the 24 golfers that took part in the Play2Support senior pairs competition in aid of Prostate Cancer UK held at Close House on October 16th 2017. Apart from a gloomy dust laden sky and some early drizzle hurricane Ophelia did little to dampen an excellent days golf on the Lee Westwood 'filly' course. In fact there was not a breath of wind and the day ended in glorious sunshine. Played in a stableford 4 ball better ball format players from the Appleby, Bellingham and Stocksfield clubs contested a closely fought tournament with only 5 points separating the top 8 pairs. The eventual winners with a better ball score of 43 were Peter Donnelly and Steven Pearson from Stocksfield who take home the inaugural Prostate Cancer UK trophy. The competition raised over £1000 for the charity so will be back again next year in a slightly different format, so watch this space for details.
